Post-Song
Post-Song
This brooch–necklace hybrid takes the form of a cicada —
a creature defined by waiting, emergence, and disappearance.
Formed through electroforming and finished with heat patina, the surface carries shifting iridescent tones that emerge through controlled oxidation. The color is not decorative, but the result of exposure — heat, time, and chemical reaction — echoing the cicada’s own passage through transformation.
The piece can be worn either as a brooch or a necklace, allowing it to move between adornment and artifact, body and object. It does not depict the cicada in flight or song, but rather after — after the sound has faded, after the body has fulfilled its function.
What remains is a shell of becoming.
Neither fully alive nor inert, it holds the residue of presence:
a quiet body marked by time, altered by environment, and left behind.
Post-Song belongs to my ongoing Remnant series, in which I work with forms that exist after bloom, after voice, after use — objects that carry memory without narrative, and endure as traces of impermanence.
